Patients can turn to our team for Emergency Dentistry

You never know when problems will arise, and that’s part of the excitement of everyday life. But no one is excited about dental issues. Oral health issues happen when we least expect it, it’s always a good idea to have an emergency dentist on hand. Drs. Michelle and Glenn Taylor in Sandy, Utah, are here to provide emergency dentistry when patients need it—for both children and adults.

What is considered an emergency dental situation?

Are you not quite sure when you need to connect with an emergency dentist? Below are a few situations that might warrant a call to the team at Taylor Dental Care:

  • Knocked out tooth
  • Severe toothache
  • Soft tissue injuries
  • Chipped/broken teeth
  • Lost dental filling
  • Lost restoration
  • Loose tooth
  • Abscess
  • Severe infection

Do I visit an emergency room or an emergency dentist?

There are certain situations where patients may actually need to see a doctor at an emergency room before they come in for an emergency dental appointment. For example, if a patient has been in a car accident and their mouth has collided with the steering wheel, they will first want to visit a traditional emergency room for an evaluation. After they have been cleared of any immediate injuries, the patient would then see a dental provider if trauma has happened to the mouth.

What can be done for emergency dental problems?

Our team is well-versed in handling a wide range of dental situations and provides same-day dental appointments. The type of treatment performed will vary depending on the individual case. A patient with a knocked-out tooth will need different care than a patient who has an infected tooth. During the visit, the dentist will carry out a series of diagnostic steps such as x-rays and a physical evaluation to determine the treatment needed. That may include tooth reattachment, stitches, root canal therapy, or the fabrication or placement of dental crowns. In some cases, patients might need emergency dental extractions for damaged teeth that are beyond repair.
