Can Invisalign Fix Crossbite?

Invisalign Sandy, UT

Instead of relying on just any straightener, consider Invisalign retainers. Since these consist of customized trays made for each patient, they are comfortable and fit great. Invisalign retainers also produce results in about 12 months. Even better, these retainers correct a broad range of tooth-related problems, including a crossbite.

What is a crossbite?

There are different types of bites that affect people. An overbite is when the two front teeth overlap the two front teeth on the bottom. An underbite causes the lower jaw to protrude. Then there is a crossbite. In this case, one or more teeth have more of a lingual or buccal position. The means the tooth sits closer to the cheek or the tongue. Regardless, it too causes issues for the individual.

Problems when having a crossbite

For starters, a crossbite can cause a person’s teeth to chip or wear down. If that happens, there is a good chance the individual would need a crown. Another issue is that a crossbite can make the gums recede. This problem can even cause notches or indentations to form on the gums. Regardless, the result is pain and sometimes, bone loss.

When a crossbite affects the gums, most people experience pain. That makes simple things like eating extremely difficult. As a more serious problem, it is important for an individual to see a general dentist as soon as possible. If someone has regular checkups, the dentist would quickly identify this problem. At that point, the dentist might recommend Invisalign.

How does Invisalign help?

With regular checkups, a general dentist can quickly identify a crossbite issue. If someone is a good candidate for Invisalign, the dental professional takes impressions. Those then go to a laboratory that makes the thermoplastic trays. When ready, the individual would return to the dentist’s office. When having the patient put the trays in the mouth, the dentist can ensure a proper fit.

The patient is then sent home with a set of four trays. For about 20 hours per day, the person has to wear the Invisalign retainers. While wearing them, the retainers begin to reposition the teeth. Compared to braces, this process is much faster. After using all four trays, the person returns to the dentist’s office for new impressions. Using those, the dental laboratory makes a new set of Invisalign retainers.

This process continues until the desired outcome is achieved. As for cleaning the retainers, all a person needs to do is brush. Even when wearing them, a person can eat what they want. For those who play sports, the only requirement is a mouthguard. Other than that, the process is pretty simple.

Correct your crossbite

Instead of spending years in braces, talk to a general dentist about Invisalign retainers. Remember, always go with this registered trademark brand. That way, you will achieve the results you want. In no time, you will have straight teeth and a beautiful smile.
